Work with a Community Impact

For over nine years Shareka has had a lasting impact in the community, holding several positions within the Tacoma-based health care system MultiCare. She has provided more than 200 asthma home visits to help educate and support families of children with chronic respiratory conditions. She also worked in the women, infants and children department at MultiCare providing support, outreach and resources for income-contingent populations in Pierce County.

The 33-year old Tacoma native now holds the position of Cultural Outreach Program Manager. She is committed to building strong partnerships within the community, providing programs and initiatives that aim to prevent disease complications, addressing and closing gaps on disparities in health care, educating internal staff on how to provide culturally competent care and staying in the pursuit of providing the best health care for the increasingly diverse populations served. “It is truly rewarding to know your job works and positively impacts people’s lives” Shareka said.

Giving back

MultiCare, a not-for-profit health care system with hospitals and clinics around the South Sound, has been caring for the community for more than a century. “We have made a footprint in our community,” Shareka said. “You can really see the impact.”

Born and raised in Tacoma, Shareka is proud to give back to the area in which she grew up. “Tacoma shouldn’t be overlooked - it has so much to offer,” she said. “There are so many amazing jobs here.”
